Policy, Backups and data recovery.
Responsibilities
-
-
If something is against a policy, someone must report it as a concern
Many IT policies exist in companies, e.g acceptable use policy and password policy.
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) - this explains what employees should do when using IT: password policy, logging off, internet use, email use and personal devices.
-
They will cover what software employees use and whether they can install software for protection and prevention.
Other uses include Internet Usage, Removable media access and data protection.
These and other policies will define parameters and conditions that must be met by the company, possibly including software, hardware requirements, password policies and user and group policies.
Recovery
It is important that in the event of stolen data, staff should have different responsibilities including data restoration, personal data loss, media and public and informing employees.
Backups - Most servers will have two hard disks for identical data so if one breaks it can be replaced and restored immediately. They can also make backups to servers on the internet (the cloud). They are done often and stored in different places.
It takes time to recover lost data and restore backups, meaning employees need to be aware of the time it will take. While waiting, alternative devices can be used, Wi-Fi, or paper.
