- - - - Luther decided to take a public stand agaisnt the actions of a friar named Johann Tetzel. Luther's teachings were based on the reformation of the Church and many people had followed his concepts.
        
        The pope had threatened Luther because Luther's ideas became so popular that he had suggested that the Christians drive the pope from the Church by force.
        
        Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, also opposed Luther's teachings. He had issued an imperial order that said that Luther was an outcast and a heretic and a new religious group was created that was called the Lutherans.
        
        The peasants had rebelled and were violent. Luther had wrote to the German prince to show no mercy to the peasants. They felt betrayed by Luther since they were following his ideas.
        
        Henry VIII of England also hated Luther's ideas and he thought that a civil war would break out and he would be killed without an heir to the throne.
        
        Henry had married Anne Boleyn to have another son to take the heir to the throne.
