- - - - Next Odysseus and his men land on an island where its main source of food is a lotus and he sends men to go check out the place. These men forget about their home and journey after the inhabitants encourage the men to eat the lotuses.
      - The lotus is a drug and this narcotic causes a lack of interest in the people who eat it
      - Island of the Cyclopes
        
        Come to the island and his men get trapped in the cave of Polyphemus. Odysseus's men were eaten but Polyphemus was blinded by Odysseus and tricked into calling him Nothing. In the end the remaining crew escape by hanging on to the under side of Polyphemus' flock and steal most of it when the Cyclopes is letting out his sheep like he does everyday.
        
        Aeolia (Island of Aeolus)
        
        Aeolus is the controller of the winds and when Odysseus landed he treated him with kindness, following the laws of Xenia. Aeolus enjoyed Odysseus's stories and treated him so well that Odysseus stayed on the island for a month. When he left Aeolus gave him a bag of unfavorable wind. They sail on for nine days and when they begin to see the shore of Ithaca the men open the bag and set them off into the unknown sea. They are blown back to Aeolia but Aeolus refuses to help.
        
        Telepylos (land of the laestrygonians)
        
        A land full of cannibals and unaware of this Odysseus and 12 ships float into a natural harbor. Odysseus remains outside and send three scouts. Only two return bringing news that the land is full of giant cannibals. As they were leaving the giants were on the cliffs and threw rocks destroying all 11 in the harbor but Odysseus's boat.
        
        Aeaea (Circe's Island)
        
        Home to the sorceress Circe that turns Odysseus's men into pigs except him because he outwitted her by taking a herb making him immune to her potion. He ends up staying there for a whole year.
        
        The Underworld
        
        Odysseus and his remaining men travel to the Underworld under Circe's advice to find the blind prophet, Teiresias, to find a way to go home. He does this by making a sacrifice of animal blood so the dead can talk about the living world.
