4 types: Trademarks, Copyright, Patents, Design Rights
- Trademarks: A sign of origin of a product/service. Examples: Nike, Apple
:check: Trademarks must be able to be presented graphically. Sound can be scored. They must be distinctive and not descriptive. Anyone can use the TM sign without registering but former registration must be granted to use the R sign
- Copyright: It's an automatic right that does not need to be registered. It exists whenever anybody creates an original work. Examples: Book, pictures, musics, films
- Patents: Protecting inventions providing they are new, involving inventive steps and having industrial application
- Design Rights: Protecting what things look like, their shapes and appearance
