Principles of Design Aysegul Cakir
Balance
Asymetrical
A large shape is balanced by smaller shapes.
Radial
All lines and shapes lead to the middle of the work, with focus on the center.
Symetrical
The things on either side of the centerline are almost alike. The two sides are visually equal.
Perspective
One Point
One point perspective is a drawing technique where the objects are drawn according to a set of rules that make the picture look like it has depth. The objects in the art look like they are three dimensional.
Linear
Objects that are closer appear larger, more distant objects appear smaller as they get close to the vanishing point.
Horizontal Line
The viewer's eye level in the picture.
Converging Lines
Lines that project the sides of an object back into space and always converge (come together) at the vanishing point.
Vanishing Point
Where all things appear to disappear. (always on the horizon line)
System used to show depth. (started being used in the Renaissance)
Contrast
2.Intensity
Can be seen when placing a pure color next to a tint of the same color.
4.Size
Adds drama in art. Emphasizes the size of an object (Small person/large building).
1.Value
Strong
Subtle
3.Temperature
The difference between warm and cool colors.
