Principls of design Azarya Downs-Hameed
Balance
Asymmectrical
A large shape balanced by smaller shapes
Radial
All lines and shapes lead to the middle of the work, with the focus on the center
Symmetrical
Things on either side of a center line are almost alike. The two sides are visually equal
Contrast
Intensity
Put a pure color next to the same line
Value
Strong
Subtle
Temperature
Difference between warm and cool colors
Size
Adds drama in art
point of view
One point perspective is a drawing technique where the objects are drawn according to a set of rules that make the picture look like it has depth. The objects in the art look like they are three dimensional.
During the Renaissance, artists became interested in making two-dimensional artwork look three-dimensional.
The Renaissance began in Italy and spread through Northern Europe. There was a great interest in Art, Science, and Literature during this time.
Artists used math and close observation to invent linear perspective.
Linear perspective allows artists to trick the eye into seeing depth on a flat surface.
Objects that are closer appear larger, more distant objects appear smaller as they get close to the vanishing point.
To create the illusion of space the artists creates a vanishing point on the horizon line.
Objects are drawn using orthogonal (or converging) lines, which lead to the vanishing points.
Many artists have used a variety of different techniques to show depth. However it was not until the Renaissance that artists developed a system to show depth logically and consistently.
The HORIZON LINE is the viewer’s eye level in the picture.
The CONVERGING LINES are those that project the sides of an object back into space. They always come together (converge) at the vanishing point.
The VANISHING POINT is
always on the horizon line.
It is where all things appear
to disappear.
It represents
an infinite distance away.
It’s the red dot in the center.
