Asexual vs Sexual. With asexual reproduction you only need one parent to reproduce, this means that you don't have to find a mate.
Sexual reproduction means combining genetic material from two parents meaning its probably easier to raise the kids.
Asexual Reproduction-Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction by which offspring arise from a single organism, and inherit the genes of that parent only; it does not involve the fusion of gametes, and almost never changes the number of chromosomes.
Sexual reproduction-the production of new living organisms by combining genetic information from two individuals of different types (sexes). In most higher organisms, one sex (male) produces a small motile gamete which travels to fuse with a larger stationary gamete produced by the other (female).
Genome-The haploid set of chromosomes in a gamete or microorganism, or in each cell of a multicellular organism.
Chromosomes-A threadlike structure of nucleic acids and protein found in the nucleus of most living cells, carrying genetic information in the form of genes.
Genes-a unit which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring.
Protiens-any of a class of nitrogenous organic compounds that consist of large molecules composed of one or more long chains of amino acids and are an essential part of all living organisms.
Traits-A distinguishing quality or characteristic, typically one belonging to a person.
Punnet square- The Punnett square is a square diagram that is used to predict the genotypes of a particular cross or breeding experiment.
Heterozygous and homozygous-
Homozygous- Having two identical alleles of a particular gene or genes.
Heterozygous- Having two different alleles of a particular gene or genes.
Mutations- A mutation is a change in a DNA sequence. Mutations can result from DNA copying mistakes made during cell division, exposure to ionizing radiation, exposure to chemicals called mutagens, or infection by viruses
Variations- a change or difference in condition, amount, or level, typically with certain limits.
Adaptations-a change or the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment.
N.S.- the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. The theory of its action was first fully expounded by Charles Darwin and is now believed to be the main process that brings about evolution.
