The poem is about how we deal with suffering of others who are faraway. The photographer would take photos of people who are suffering and who are in pain, which he would then bring back to us, miles away, to show the tragedy of these people. It asks the question of how would we react to a disaster in another country.
Hide and seek
Language
Many uses of short sentences to make the flow of the poem get faster and more choppy to create tension. The poem is told similar to a story this might be to reflect on the child's mindset and how they aren't able to come up the complex thoughts so it is just told as they see it.
Multiple uses of alliteration, sibilance, and assonance. This again may also be used to reflect the child's' thoughts, but it is used more to give the reader a clearer image of the surroundings.
Meaning
This poem shows the tension of the game hide and seek and expresses the fun of childhood, but it also shows the determination of the boy on how much he wanted to win. He stood on the cold floor and the harsh environment that made him barely able to breathe. He fought through that to win. When he came out of the shed he won the game, but at what cost?
