PBIS CASE SCENARIO ON DISRESPECTERS (KG2 -GRADE 2)
TIER 2 INTERVENTION STRATEGIES
Alternatives to suspension
The Rationale for this step
1. This is important because traditional school suspension is academically unproductive. 2. It appears that many students are not deterred with suspension because they hardly see it as a significant trigger for negative actions. 3. Because there are many alternatives that motivates learners than suspension.
Implementing the Strategy
:
In-school suspension (ISS).
Limiting or denying certain privileges like recess, lunch and social time.
3.Behavior monitoring
Necessity to appropriate
:
When I notice that the student is often suspended.
Often times, a student may want to deliberately get suspended in other to escape something.
Mentoring
The Rationale for this step
: 1. Mentoring can help improve students motivation.
It can enable learners to see teachers and school in a good light.
Mentoring acts as a source of advocacy, encouragement and support.
Implementing the Strategy
:
Selecting a mentor for the learner. The mentor should be supportive, encouraging and highly engaged.
Mentors should help students to set goals, plans, and solutions.
Mentors should listen, listen, listen! Use active listening with students.
Necessity to appropriate
: 1. When students are not apparently successful with their academic performance as well as behavior.
When tier 1 intervention evidently fails.
As a resort, it used when students appears not to respond to any thing.
DISRESPECTERS: Students who disrespectful are typically fond of the following:
Do not follow instructions given by the teacher
Show no level of courtesy
Often want to confront teachers
Are reluctant to appreciate the ideas and opinions of others.
Are discriminatory and opinionated.
DATA TRACKING SYSTEM: Antecedent Behavior Consequence log (ABC) chart.
TIER 1 INTERVENTION STRATEGIES
Avoid power struggles
The Rationale for this step
: 1. It helps me to calm down, to be clear-headed and not make rash decisions. 2. Because it terminates the cycle of ruthless anger, tension, and escalation. 3. Minimizes the chances of further physical and verbal conflict.
The Necessity to Appropriate
: 1. If I notice that a kid is attempting to or actually engaging in an unhealthy argument with me. 2. When a student seems not to comport him/herself. 3. When I am issuing directives, instructions, corrections and/or reprimands.
Implementing the Strategy
: 1. I will have to avoid responding in an emotional tone equivalent to that of the student.
I will isolate the student from the situation and discuss issues after he/she has calmed down.
I shall use a neutral and calm tone
Interpersonal Engagement with students
The Rationale for this step
1. Because I notice that kids are very likely to listen to you when when you advice them at places away from others. 2. It also give the learners an opportunity for them to express their perspective and thoughts. 3. It is believed that students take interpersonal advice seriously.
Implementing the Strategy
1. I must exercise a lot of patience and self-control to do this since one can easily be overcome with the emotional dissatisfaction.
I will have to keep responses brief, clear and precise.
Isolate students from the situation and make an appointment to talk to them about the issue
The Necessity to Appropriate
1. I will have to implement this when a particular behavior has incited disruption to the class. 2. If I notice there's a particular problem with a student that needes redress.
Teach Proper Relationship Skills
The Rationale for this step
: 1. Helping the learners with interpersonal skills is an essential aspect of their holistic development. 2. It can go a long way to improve children's moods and the stability f their emotions. 3. It also improves students coping skills.
Implementing the Strategy
:
I shall make use of any opportune time to model and role play proper relationship skills to learners whether there's a situation at hand or not.
I will help kids to set goals with making friends and getting along with others.
I will encourage kids to collaborate and work on class projects together.
The Necessity to Appropriate
: 1. It is important that all kids are taught proper relationship skills. 2. If a teacher notices that learners tend to shun, or discriminate others. 3. When a teacher observes that students provoke, annoy, and bully others.

TIER 3 INTERVENTION
Behavior Intervention Plan
Necessity to appropriate
1. When the behavior problems with a student are persistent and glaring. I will resort to this intervention especially if these problems obstruct other students in the class. 2. When I perceive that the student is struggling to stay organized and motivated for academic or schoolwork.
Implementing the Strategy
1. I will use at least one “Data Tracking Forms” to solicit information on the student’s behaviors. 2. I will have a meeting with stakeholders such as the parents of the ward and administrative support staff to collectively review the intervention plan for the ward. 3. I will have to regularly review the child's behavior progress at least biweekly or reasonable time period.
The Rational for this step
1. It affords the educator the opportunity to provide a more robust form of intervention and monitoring for the child. 2. It enhances the assistance the teacher gives to the student. 3. It is an avenue for a customized kind of achieving success for a particular student.
Behavior Meetings
Necessity to appropriate
1. If a student is at the Tier III level, and there's the need for regular and behavior meetings. 2. Behavior meetings should be considered strongly for Tier II students as well.
Implementing the Strategy
1. I will first and foremost develop a formal or informal agenda for the meeting. 2. From then on, I will have to set time limits for the meeting. Ensure control such that it does not run too long. 3. Have all relevant parties present their cases. 4. When it appears a party is emotionally affected, we call off the meeting and reschedule another time to conclude.
The Rational for this step
1. This intervention provides reliable and essential information for managing students' behavior at home and in school. 2. It can give valuable information on updates for behavior plans, functional behavior assessments, and other behavior changes and interventions. 3. Prevents students from misinforming parents and the school organization.
