Physics 2: Space
-
Solar system & Orbits:
Instantaneous velocity (Of objects in orbit):
Direction of velocity, at a right angle to the force of gravity (Acting on it)
Velocity & Speed of objects in orbit:
- Velocity Changes (Direction changing) --> Object is accelerating
- Speed is constant
Closer objects have more Speed
- Closer the object, Greater gravitational force
- Therefore the object needs to travel faster to remain in orbit
-
Orbits:
4 things that orbit our sun:
- Planets
- Dwarf Planets
- Moons (Natural satellites)
- Artificial Satelites
Planets (In our solar system):
- Mercury (My)
- Venus (Very)
- Earth (Easy)
- Mars (Method)
- Jupiter (Just)
- Saturn (Speeds)
- Uranus (Up)
- Neptune (Naming)
- (Pluto) (Planets)
Red-Shift & Big bang:
Big bang theory:
- All matter was occupied in a tiny, hot & dense space
- There was an explosion causing the expansion of the universe
Evidence that universe is expanding:
- Wavelength of light from distant galaxies increased (Red shifted)
- Means Galaxies are moving away
- Most distant galaxies have greatest Red-Shift
- Which means that the most distant galaxies will be moving away faster.
What theories are being formed, and not fully understood?
Dark mass & Energy
