What is Philosophy?
:silhouette:
Philosophical thought must always spring from free creation. Every man must accomplish it
for himself.
For the scientific-minded, the worst aspect of philosophy is that it produces no universally valid
results; it provides nothing that we can know and thus possess.
There is no generally accepted,
definitive knowledge
-
philosophy deals with the whole of being, which concerns man as man
philosophy springs from a different source. It emerges
beforeany science, wherever men achieveawareness
-
-
Since man cannot avoid philosophy, it is always present

Philosophy means to be on the way. Its
questions are more essential than its answers, and every answer becomes a new question.
Every philosophy defines itself by its realization. W e can determine the nature of philosophy only by
actually experiencing it

Philosophy then becomes the realization of the living idea and the reflection upon
this idea, action and discourse on action in one
Philosophy is the principle of concentration through which man becomes himself, by partaking of
reality
Philosophy cannot fight, it cannot prove its truth, but it can communicate itself
It is aliving expression of the basic
universality of man, of the bond between all men
Sources of Philosophy
The history of philosophy as methodical thinking began twenty-five hundred years ago, but as
mythical thought much earlier
The source alone lends meaning to present philosophy and through it
aloneispast philosophy understood
t: Plato said that the source of philosophy was wonder. Our eyes gave us "the sight of the stars,
thesun and thefirmament
-
Wonder impelsman to seek knowledge. In my wonderment I becomeaware of my lack of knowledge.
I seek knowledge, but for itsown sakeand not "to satisfy any common need

Descartes' famous proposition, "I think, therefore I am," was for him a solid certainty, though he
doubted everything else
