Schools of Thought
Structural Functionalism
Society is stable when social institutions meet the needs of its citizens. Institutions are interdependent. Studies how structures work together to meet needs. The criticism on this theory is that it does not account for destructive forces. Emile Durkheim was the first sociologist and believed in functional differentiation and Talcotte Parsons was a USA structural functionalist.
Conflict Theory
Competition between different groups for power, struggle with political and economic power. Idea that those who have power seek to keep it away from others. Karl Marx: the author of the communist manifesto believed that social inequality and class conflict were between 3 classes. Burgoise: the rich. Petite Burgoise: business owners. Proletariat: people who sell their labour. Fights between these groups only looked at economics.
All schools of thought can be split into macrosociology (social systems on large scale) and microsociology (small groups and individuals within society)
Feminist sociology
Examines Gender inequality and norms and roles in society. Women deprived of power and control, without equal membership in society. Too much male authority. Dorothy Smith, a canadian sociologist says that women have been marginalized in society which is socially constructed in favour of men. Feminist sociology started by studdying upper class white women but now involves different races, classes, sexualities and religions.

Social Stratification -The institutional process that defines certain types of occupations and good as socially desirable
Nothing Is Always "Fair"- Even though they use an example as some people make way much more money through their occupation and such. They mention how it`s society based and acts. Imagine you attend a buffet, and the you are the very first person in line, you have the privilege of having the most choice then the other people in the back of the line. In an economic picture, the people in the back of the line are the people underneath the poverty line.
In One Example, the Thomson Family is know as the wealthiest
Schools Of Thought - The Schools Of Thought are known as the better way to be able to summarise and explain Social Stratification
Privileged- Social Stratification describes how social relationships are based on privileges held by one group and denied to another
An example of Privileges is almost like white privilege and racism. Where a culture/race is treated differently compared to another. As in the 70s when white persons where treated as the dominant culture and were provided benefits, and the African-American population was not.
stereotypes

Smmerhill is a school that was founded in 1921 off the east coast of England with the intent of having a more democratic community. The school gave students more freedom when it came to test, classes and choosing courses. Summerhill allows students to create work for themselves and having no compulsion to attend classes. Staff allow students to have a more one one approach and allowing exams to be decided by the child weather they do it or not. Students have no pressure
