C.A.R.P. (principles of design)
CONTRAST
Contrast is used to create a focal point
Without contrast an image is uneventful and your main idea gets lost
REPETITION
Repeating items over and over again
Find balance between contrast and repetition to create a focal point and drawing attention to one part in the piece
Ties the piece together and makes it a cohesive piece
ALIGNMENT
Nothing should be placed on the page arbitrarily
Everything should have a visual relationship with the other elements on the page
Avoid always centering; use right align, left align
Don't want to get rid of contrast and repetition so use the same shapes as usual
PROXIMITY
Group similar items
Use proximity to create alignment
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
Line
Color
Shape
Texture
Space
Form
The basic unit of a visual piece that make up a painting, drawing, or design
Principles applied to the elements are what make or break a design
These rules are why...
We cringe when you change an element at the last minute.
We don't use all the colors of the rainbow in a single design.
We like negative space.
We try to minimize the number of fonts.
We can't just "throw something together"
