self-esteem- is the part of the self-concept that involves the evaluation of self-worth. self-esteem involves the way we communicate and how people view us.

along with heredity our identity is shaped by communication with others. the term reflected appraisal describes how we develop an image of ourselves from the way we think others view us
although with messages from others your own assessments shape your self concept. This occurs thought the process of social comparison. social comparison is evaluating ourselves of how we compare with others
culture and self concept. cultures affect our self concept in both obvious and subtle ways. example most western cultures are highly individualistic means they value individually and independence.
self-concept and communication with self-concept shapes and is shaped by much of our communication behavior. for example, the self-concept you bring to an event the one element of your self-concept is nervous with authority figures the image probably comes from the evaluation of significant others in the past perhaps teachers of former employers.
the self-fulfilling prophecy and communication. the self-concept is such a powerful force that it can influence our future behavior and that of others. a self-fulfilling prophecy occurs when a person expects of an outcome and subsequent behavior makes the outcome more likely to occur.
