Random
all members of the population are allocated and an amount of those are selected in an unbiased way e.g. drawing names from a hat
Strengths - representative of everyone as all types of people are equally likely to be chosen to participate

Opportunity
participants are chosen because they are available e.g. university students chosen because they are around at the time

Snowball
Participants are contacted through an initial small group e.g. if participants needed to be specific kind of people who are hard to find. one person brings others and they brig more etc.
Strength - easy because you only have to find the first few participants - convenient way to find a sample of a particular kind of participant
non-representative as they are likely to be similar in ways other than common characteristics needed for the study
Stratified
all types of people used as they are deliberately sort after to represent the sub group in a population
