Characters
Frenchie
The main character of the book. By his real name Francis, both his left and never came back when he was little and his older brother Mitch got captured by recruiters. He then met his new family and went through lots of different situations.
Mitch
Frenchie's older brother. Got captured by the recruiters when he was with Mitch and he did absolutely everything he could to save his brother. He is a kind-hearted boy.
Miig
Was living a happy life with his husband Isaac in what seemed to be a house in the middle of the woods until they got betrayed by 2 indigenous elders accompanied by one younger girl who tried to save Miig and Isaac. One night the recruiters came to capture and take away Miig and his husband

Was an messenger/runner for a year in exchange of food
She then got caught by a ruthless, cruel pervert who imprisoned her in a freezer and raped her. She then got out 2 days later with no memories whatsoever of what had happened.

Family
Family was for me the most important aspect of this book. It clearly showed how someone doesn't need to be blood-related to be your father or aunt or sister etc... The fact that each group member lost important members of their families and all still managed to love everyone in the group and protect one another is truly amazing.
