- - - - After Standing Rock, some Veterans used the experience they learned during the protests to continue to do good for Insignious people. They formed the Veteran Service Corps based in the Cheyenne River Lakota. They are currently aiding in health issues, housing, and education.

        Settler Colonialism aims to replace the Native population of the region with a new "settler" population. This is of course seen in action in American history by the US Government's actions to eliminate native identities like the wars against natives, mass killings of buffalos in the Plains, and the outlawing of traditional native clothing and languages
      - "Sovereignty" in Native Keyword Studies describes the fraught history the Native Community and the American government have. The Supreme Court has ruled tribes are considered Sovereign nations, but indigenous nations have little self determination and the state is heavily involved in their affairs.

        FAA banned the use of drones over the Standing Rock site. Many protesters continued to use drones to film the site, video of which is used in the documentary and music videos.Drones were used to film clashes with the police.

        Awake, A Dream from Standing Rock documents the struggles of the protesters at Standing Rock and the history of violence against Native peoples. It includes interviews from indigenous people and shows videos of the camps. At points, it feels almost war-like during intense scenes between protesters and police.
    - - Thunderbird Strike is a simple video game created by Elizabeth LaPensée. The player plays as a mythical thunderbird who uses lightning to destroy pipelines and construction sites that are destroying the environment

        The #NODAPL movement
        
        "Siege" by Estes describes a vivid history of the #NoDAPL movement. It started in October 2014 when the pipeline was proposed to run through lands granted to Sioux through the Treaty of Fort Laramie (1851). The pipeline would threaten access to water resources and destroy the environment. Estes compares the determination of both the Government and the oil companies to build the pipeline to traditional military sieges that the military performed to steal native land.
        
        "Prologue" by Estes describes the years of oppression, starting back at the landing of the Mayflower, that American Indigenous communities have faced at the hands of the white settlers that would come to rule the continent. The American government has waged war against native communities in order to take their land and resource and to dominate them.
        
        "Women and Standing Rock" by Layli Long Soldier is a collection of works that describe the #NoDAPL movement and life as an indigenous women. It is made in collaboration with other women and describes the resilience they have and often, the anger felt at the injustices done to them and their community.
        
        Violence against Protesters
        
        "The Battle of Treaty Camp" by Brown, Parrish and Speri at The Intercept describes a major clash that took place between police and protesters on October 27, 2016. Officers descended on Treaty Camp and attempted to clear it. They used pepper spray, rubber bullets, tasers, sound cannons, and batons against the protesters. The protesters, facing no other option, were forced to retreat.
        
        "South Dakota’s “Riot-Boosting” Law Aims to Curb the Next Standing Rock Before it Even Starts" by Delilah Friedler reports that South Dakota is taking action to prevent protests from even happening in the first place. Organizations and large non-profits are now held accountable if violence starts at a protest, meaning that organized protests are less likely to occur.
    - - This song once again emphasizes the importance of water and describes the pipeline as a "black snake". This is a common metaphor throughout the #NoDAPL movement. The music video for the song is filmed at the camps, showing the sense of community and persistence at the camps.
    - - This song emphasizes how important it is to stand up and fight for the native community against the threat of the pipeline. There is a real 911 call integrated into the song that asks "who protects you against the police?"
