What is the proof that humans and apes come from a different common ancestor?
The discovery of a 13-million-year-old infant skull was discovered in Kenya in 2014.
The skull nicknamed “Alesi” was found to resemble a baby gibbon. It is the first ape cranium unearthed from a time period of between 10 million and 14 million years ago and the most complete one discovered from between 7 million and 17 million years ago.
Alesi belonged to a genus known as Nyanzapithecus, a group of hominoids discovered about 30 years ago. However, Alesi’s teeth were much larger than other members of the genus which prompted scientists to declare that Alesi belonged to a new species, Nyanzipithecus alesi.
When did these species (Homo habilis, Homo erectus, and Homo neanderthalensis) go extinct?
Homo habilis (Latin: “able man” or “handy man” went extinct roughly 2.4 to 1.5 million years ago.
Homo erectus went extinct around 50000 to 100000 years ago.
Homo neanderthalensis went extinct about 40000 years ago.
