Plot
We open up on the western front. Our narrator tells us that they had just a great amount of food.
They go to see Kemmerich in the dressing room where they see he has only 1 leg
Kemmerich dies a few min. later
In the book they never mentioned where they were fighting, or any significant battle that happened on these fronts
Even though they are still alive they feel dead inside from the war
Paul get some time off, so he goes back to his home town
This does not help because, his dad and Kantorek keep talking to him about the war that he want to forget about on leave
When he returns to the front he is glad to be reunited with his friends
