Research Method
Data Collection
The data was collected from a variety of databses including CINAHL Complete, Web of Science, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO. The researcher then created a set of defined terms to use as parameters that he determined would be best when conducting the search
The search using these databases and following the set of parameters resulted in a sample size of 28 studies

When analyzing the effectiveness of qualititaive research studies, the author used the Critical Appraisal Skills Program (CASP) checklist. The checklist provided information on if the research was clear and if the methodology of the research was appropriate.
The descriptive research approach is a basic research method that examines the situation, as it exists in its current state. Descriptive research involves identification of attributes of a particular phenomenon based on an observational basis, or the exploration of correlation between two or more phenomena.
In descriptive research method,
correlational, developmental design, observational studies, and survey research are used.
What constitutes qualitative research involves purposeful use for describing, explaining, and
interpreting collected data.
Research Question
Examine the phenomenological approaches taken within a number of studies that sought to identify the experiences of people with intellectual disability
Researcher feels that people with intellectual disabilities are often left out of research due to ethical considerations regarding consent, conveyance of information at an inappropriate level, or coercion to take part or influence data. This research is important because the author identifies it as the first attempt to analyze the effectiveness of phenomenological research that has been used to give those with intellectual disability, an underrepresented group, a voice in academic research.

Summary of research
The researcher is interested in examining the method of phenomenological research in regards to people with intellectual disabilities as research participants. The author of the research begins by providing an introduction to phenomenological research as “the study of lived experience” (2). In other words, the researcher is attempting to identify the commonalities that those with intellectual disabilities experience in their lives. This is done by observing “themes, patterns, or trends” (3) among the participants.
