It provides illustrations that may help the counselor visualized how they would like to structure their group and plan their activities accordingly. The authors do well to explain the process of developing a group to create and support an effective meeting. The author breaks the facilitator's process into three parts. The first part being pre-planning, second is running the group and third being the post-session output. The framework used in this article can be helpful when pre-planning a group and help the counselor develop a plan on how the group structure should be planned and maintained.
This comprehension counseling group module walks you through an example of what the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program and Responsive services have set up for group counseling within a high school. There are examples of assessment notes, forms you might need, as well as ground rules for all participants. This program does a fantastic job of specifically outlining what all is required and I feel will be a great asset to us as a group throughout this term.Missouri Professional School Counselors and Counselor Educators. 2015. This dissertation gives un an overview of the necessity of pre-group planning for college freshmen and the groups that are available at Write State University.
Though our group is geared for high school aged students, our seniors will graduate and some will become college freshmen. Our goal should be to prepare
our students to the best of our ability on what to expect. This article will help us when looking at what pre-planning involves as well as what group therapies
could be offered. It was an enlightening read and I really enjoyed it.

This article can give counselors examples of what worked in a study involving rural at-risk High School; this would be a good article to read in the pre-planning stage. There were two groups split into 'Supportive Counseling Groups' and 'Cognitive-behavioral Intervention Groups'. The results indicate that the cognitive-behavioral groups had a significant effect on the students self-esteem, academic self-concept, GPA and detention. Bauer, S. R., Sapp, M., & Johnson, D. (1999). Referral Worksheet
This is an example of a consent form that will be sent to the parents before students will be allowed to participate in small group counseling. The form will explain the goals and the objective for students in the group. The consent form will also explain the activities that will be used and the purpose of the small groups. Parents are required to sign the form before students are allowed to participate in the small group counseling session.

This is an example of McFadzean, Somersall, and Coker's framework for a pre-planning session. A shown in the picture, both the goal and process congruence need to be maintained and show that distractions may occur while communicating information. During that stage, the counselor may use activities to limit distractions when presenting students with information (McFadzean, Somersall, & Coker, 1999).

Learning Resources
https://peaceeducation.org/by-age/high-school.html. The PeaceWorks and Peace Education Foundation is a great resource that has many activities that professionals can use with their group planning. The resources also share skills that non-professionals may use in a variety of situations. For example, there are icebreaker activities that can be used before starting a group. When it comes to bullying, many students may not feel comfortable about the topic. Probably because they are scared to talk about their situation because it may get worst or they may be embraced. Completing an icebreaker activity may help the students build a relationship with both the facilitator and their peers.
This article gives a nice breakdown of Best Practice Guidelines that the Association for Specialists Group Work uses to clarify the ACA Code of Ethics. It talks about how each group member needs to implement an assessment of self; when planning each member needs to know their knowledge and skills related to the specific group. Thomas, R.
