miminmum info on a requisition includes, Full name, DOB, sex, race
allows you to identify the pt correctly, tells you what specimen should be collected, allows you to gather your equipment before you encounter the pt
When receiving the test requistion by examining, checking, prioritizing, and collecting the equipment

- apply the tourniquet about 3-4 inches above the puncture site

- Perform the venipuncure using the thumb of your nondominant hand to anchor the vein below the puncture site
inset the needle, bevel up with an angle of 15-30 degrees

- postition and prepare the patient
- assemble your equipment in front of the pt
- clean the site with alcohol in concentric circles, working in and out

- remove the needle cap and examine the needle tip for any defects
- Push in the tube with the hand that achored the vein, using the flanges to brace the holder and keep it steady
- remove teh tourniquet asap as blood flow is established by pulling on the free end
- Advance and change the tubes
- Prepare for needle removal
- WIthdraw the needle at the same angle that you entered the skin
- Dispose of the used needle in the needle collection container
