Aggression In Sports
Assertive Behaviour
-
-
-
E.g. Non contact sports such as netball has this type of aggression as there is no intent to harm and it tires you out quite fast.
Relational Aggression
Spreading rumours, forming cliques
-
-
E.g. Within teams cliques are often formed, for example in a rugby team the forwards and back tend to split off. But this can have a negative impact on the team if these cliques are formed and therefore the team does not mix as they will struggle to work together when it comes to a game.
Hostile Aggression
-
-
-
E.g. Boxers seem to have this aggression as the whole point of boxing is to hurt each other. They will batter each other to the end in order to win.
Instrumental Aggression
-
-
-
E.g. rugby has this type of aggression as the players want to get the opposition down on the floor after a tackle in order to win, but there is no anger behind it to reinforce this.
