Bronze Age Art:
-
-
• The dead were laid to rest in pits or cists – These were small stone lined boxes, a meter long which contained an upturned pot with cremated remains held underneath.
-
• Little remains of Bronze Age human settlement as houses and fences were made of wood which rotted away over centuries.
• The clear difference between Bronze Age and Stone Age suggests that the people who developed metal technology in Ireland were from a different culture to Stone Age people.
-
• Forms and designs were created geometric in the Bronze Age, whereas they were free flowing in the Stone Age.

Extracting Copper:
• Copper was mined by roasting rock that contained ore in a fire and cracking it out by throwing cold water on it.
-
• The molten (hot liquid) copper was then poured into stone mounds and made into axes, knives or any shape that was require by the people.
• This metal technology soon improved when stronger moulds were made by mixing tin with the copper to make their alloy bronze.
-
Alloy:
Any metal made by combining two or more metallic elements to give greater strength, or to resist corrosion.
