Direct substitution doesn't work when 0 is in the denominator; when direct sub gives us 0/0 it is called the indeterminate form
Indeterminate form was discovered through direct sub, it causes a hole in the graph, limit can still be solved analytically just using factoring or rationalization

Rationalization: goal is to cancel out the x from the top and bottom so that we no longer have indeterminate form and we cna use diresct substitution, to do this multipl the top and bottom by the conjugate of teh numerator
