Nervous System Katrina Austria P.7
Functions of the Nervous System
Sensory ffunctio- detects changes within the body and outside the body
Integrative function- analyzes information , stores aspects and makes decisions regarding apropiate behaviors
Motor function- responds to stimuli by initiating muscular contractions
Major part of the brain
Central Nervous System- receives processes and intercepts
Determine what output occurs
Coordinates and regulates activities
Processes hemostasis
forms ventricles
Layers of Mengitis
Dura matter- tough white and dense connective tissue that contains many blood vessels
Arachoid matter- very thin and lacks blood vessels
Pia moster- covers every fold pf the brain contains many blood vessels and nerves
Nuerons
Presynaptic- send impulse
Postsynaptic- receive impulse
sensory- transmit impulses to CNS from all parts of the body
Motor- transmit impulses away from the body
Spinal Cord
gray matter divides the white matter into three regions
base of the brain
relay messages from the different parts of the body
pass along meesages from all parts of the body
Drugs
Heroin mimies natural opiates and binds to opiate r3eceptors
Dophamine becomes trapped in the synaptic cleft
Cocaine - causes irregular breathing and heart attacks
Opiods- cause diarrhea
Marijuana- causes slow reactions
Alchohol- loose balance and causes nausea and confusions
Divisions of the PNS
Denctrite- receives impulses and sends signals to the cell body
cell body- contains nucleus and other oraganells
axon- conducts signal away from the cell body
myelin- allows signals to be sent faster
