        Not only can mentoring help a student to perceive school, teachers, work in a more positive light, but it can also build a personal rapport between the student and teacher. This may help with racial sensitivity and acceptance. Teachers can also give praise when the student shows acceptance towards others and/or a more positive mindset.
        
        Behavior Meetings
        Keeps home and school on the same page, avoiding confusion and/or misunderstandings. Regular meetings can also provide immediate or real-time feedback and plan development or alteration

        Student can evaluate and assess their own behavior. This can help promote a growth mindset as well as hold them accountable
      - Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) It's important to try and get to the root of the problem. An FBA may help find out why the student is behaving in this manner and can also help formulate an effective behavior plan
    - - Teach relationship skills including racial sensitivity -
        Teaches students how to deal with others including adults, and improves the environment of the classroom. Students may also learn to respect one another and their differences.
        
        Talk to student in hallway and use a calm and neutral tone.
        It's important to correct this behavior immediately and de-escalate the situation. However the teacher should be calm and in control when addressing the student. This can prevent a power struggle and stop the student from making a scene. It can also lessen the embarrassment for the student
        
        Contact Parents
        Parents should be aware of this type of behavior so they can address it at home as well. It provides parents with direct & accurate info on child’s school behaviors and can help establish behavioral limits that are consistent at home and at school

    - - Alternatives to Suspension
        Some possible alternatives are: detention, in-school suspension, school service or more counseling. This may be more effective in changing the student's behavior without hindering their academics.
        
        Counselor referral
        If a student cannot get over the racial difference it may be necessary to involve a counselor. This should only be done with the consent of the parents. Seeing a counselor can help the student feel more secure talking about this issue. This also gives the student more one on one help and a counselor can provide more specific intervention.

        Talk One on One With Student
        Allows the student to give his side of the story and talk about his feelings. The student will also become aware how serious this situation is. With no audience, this saves the student some embarrassment,
        
        Remove Student From Room
        If the situation becomes more disruptive and/or any student's safety is in jeopardy it may be necessary to remove the student from the situation. This allows the student to calm down and may reduce the stress felt by other students in the classroom.

        Students can evaluate their own progress and assess themselves. This can help them be more responsible for their actions and encourage a growth mindset
