Fournier's Gangrene
S/S
Swelling of affected area
Odor from affected area
Discoloration of skin
Fever

Pathophysiology
1/3 cases are fatal
Death of tissue via a bacterial infection
Without treatment the infection can go septic
Gangrene affecting the genitals and surrounding area
Different from normal gangrene (caused only by infections)
Medical care
Debridement
Antibiotics
Wound care
Surgery to seal injury
Pt was given a colostomy to prevent spread of infection to the area
Risks
advanced age
skin injury allowing bacterial access
surgical incision
rectal cancer
anorectal abscesses
genital piercing
malnutrtion
lupus
immune-suppressing drugs
DM
Alc abuse
