He represented the king and he was in charge of the military and defence of the colony. He also looked over trading with the First Nations.

He played a very important role in the Catholic Church. He was the person that looked after orphanges, schools, and religious things in the community.

These people were the people that shipped in French goods, traded them , and then they shipped them back to make a profit.
Coureur de Bois
These were independent traders who traded personally with First Nations at the start of the colony, but then it became illegal. So to get good money they would still trade with them. Also, their name means " runner of the woods."
Voyageur
They were the people who went along rivers and lakes and found new people to trade with and also explored new land for the French.

They were used to clear the land. And because of that they usually went into the fur trade. So the Seigneurs and the Habitants got into arguments, and lawsuits.

There were many soldiers deployed in New France because of the British and the Haudenosaunee. To convince them, they decided to make them Seigneurs.
