1 to 2 years
Children develop a sense of self and recognise their own name. They use all their senses to explore. Their memory is developing so they can seek hidden toys
2 to 3 years
Children become more inquisitive, they remember past experiences and enjoy talking about pictures in books
6 months to 1 year
babies understand the meaning of some words, and they begin to understand cause and effect such as what happens when they shake a rattle
3 to 5 years
By 3 years children are asking questions, counting up to 10 and can recognise some colours. By 4 years they recognise and produce patterns, classify objects and can share objects
