How to help?
Adjust Teaching Strategies
Differentiated Learnign: With this approach, teachers change and switch around what students need to learn, how they’ll learn it, and how to get the material across to them.
Scaffolding: This method breaks learning into chunks. The chunks follow a logical order and move toward a clear goal.
Multisensory Instruction: This method links what students see, what they hear, how they move, and what they feel. When students learn using all of their senses, they remember the material better.
Graphic organization: Using this method, a teacher draws a picture to map out thoughts and ideas.
Include helpful notes on students assessments to show the where they went wrong, so they know what to next time they encounter a similar question
Work with parents to find strategies that work best for the students unique needs!
Work together with co-workers to share information on the student and make a plan on what strategies work best to help the student
Set goals with the students and make a plan with them on how they aim to achieve these goals
Make time regularly to check in with students and have open communication about any difficulties they might be experiencing
Request written feedback from the class to learn more about the students unique needs
How to Identify?
Look for signs in students' behavior
Missing homework assignments
Skipping class
Difficulty keeping attention and / or self-control
Disengaged
Social withdrawal
Avoidance behavior
Collect data/ information on student to see if issues are consistent over a period of time and not an isolated event
Share information and concerns with co-workers to see if they have similar experiences with the student
Put time and effort into really getting to know your students
Have open communication with parents! Important to learn about student's background, parents' concerns, and if they notice the same behaviors at home
