The disadvantages of E-commerce to customers are that there can be fraudulent sites, Customers worry about security of credit card details, sometimes it is more hassle when returning goods, the costs of postage or duties are hidden, it is harder to assess the quality of goods before ordering and there is a loss of social pleasure of shopping.
The disadvantages of E-Commerce to businesses are that network downtime can be very expensive as business is lost, an increased competition from abroad offering cheaper goods, cost of delivery may make goods more expensive and there is a large reliance on third party delivery companies who may be unreliable.
The customer advantages are that products are avaliable to order 24/7, There is a greater choice of goods from a global marketplace, Cost savings are passed to customers with cheaper goods, No travelling needed as goods are ordered from home and it allows disabled people to do their own shopping.
The advantages of E-Commerce to businesses are that online catalogues are more easily updated, it requires low start up and running costs compared to traditional stores, fewer staff are needed, the ability to reach customers at any time of the day (open 24/7) and a global marketplace means that customers from around the world can access the business.
3-D printing
The advantages of 3D printing are that it is faster to produce prototypes, it is cheaper than using CAM, it is easy and safe to use compared to some CAM and it is small in size.
The uses of 3D printing are for fashion by creating clothing or shoes, medicine by creating prosthetics, organ replicas or surgical instruments, for manufacturing to create product prototypes and for architecture models can be created.
3-D printing works by creating or downloading a digital design file of a 3-D object. Then a material must be chosen and loaded into the printer using filaments of different materials, the computer then sends instructions to the 3-D printer about how to deposit the material layer by layer and the physical copy of the digital design is created.
The disadvantages to 3D printing are that the quality may not be as good as when produced by other machinery, the material choice is limited and Larger 3D printers can be expensive.

The benefits to customers are that it leads to discounts, offers and rewards.

A barcode is made up of black and white vertical lines of varying thicknesses to represent numbers linked to a product. Barcodes contain numbers that identify the manufacturer and product ID.
The advantages of using barcodes are that they are faster to enter data as they can be read at any angle, it leads to more accuracy as it eliminates typing errors, it leads to low printing costs and it frees staff to do other tasks.
The disadvantages of using barcodes are that they can only be used for the input of numbers, the equipment is expensive and corrupted barcodes can cause delay.
