Context Test with lesson vocabulary
(A context test uses the meanings of the vocabulary in a sentence, e.g. context clues. Students must know the vocabulary word and its meaning and in most cases also know how the word is used in a sentence to be able to wrap their heads around this approach to learning vocabulary.)
In the lesson prior to the

, Teacher plays a review game with the vocabulary words to check:
knowledge of meanings
correct usage in a sentence
grammar mistakes
spelling mistakes
ability to surprise (!) with usage
Students are separated into 3 groups based on their performance in the game:
good
hesitant
struggling
GOOD
(most knowledge of vocabulary)
Students in this group have a strong grasp of the words, their meanings, and have shown they can use more than one word at once or include previous lesson words in their sentence making.

STRUGGLING
(limited knowledge of vocabulary)
Students in this group have a weak grasp of the words; they can spell the words but often confuse their meanings; sentence making is basic or lack sufficient context, e.g. "My mom is the mayor." versus "My mom leads the city as the mayor."
