George lied to lennie to keep them working for what they wanted during the great depression. He protected Lennie from getting hurt. -M
What did he lie to him about?
"george said softly,"- i think i knowed from the very first. I think i knwed we'd never do her. He usta like to hear about it so much i got to thinking maybe we would' (steinbeck 94) -S.W
George knew from the beginning they would never achieve their dream, however he kept telling Lennie the story because it made him happy to hear how great their life would be. S.W
George also lied to lennie telling him he would never leave him. "you ain't gonna leave me, are ya, George? i know you ain't. George came stiffly near and sat down beside him. "No" he then began telling lennie about the plans they made together giving him falso hope before he he killed him. -S.W
The mice symbolize false hope.

The dream was just an allusion to George. He knew it would never come true. He still told lennie the dreams because it made him happy and kept him believing it would come true. -S.W

O'Brien wants the readers to believe the war story is true, although most of it is his imagination. -S

Stanley lied about what he did to Blache to protect his relationship with stella. -S
