The Wire Season 1-Murder Map
David Simon's modern classic, The Wire, is worthy of a multi-part series about the characters, codes and institutions that give the cult classic its definition. This American crime drama television series by author and former police reporter David Simon was broadcasted by the cable network HBO. 'The Wire' is compromised by 60 episodes over five seasons. In this mind map I focused on the complex characters and evident character murders within Season 1 of 'The Wire'. The good, the bad and the ugly are all shown on both sides in this story about the American city, and about how there is a distorted sense of morality on both sides. Whether one is a police officer, detective, drug abuser, a lawyer, a drug dealer or politician, all are ultimately compromised and evidently contend with the institution to which they are subject to. The streets themselves hold their own category within my mind map as they are presented as hostile and deviant, anonymously claiming the lives of individuals throughout. The central struggle of is whether “the game” of narcotics and criminal justice will exert its gravitational pull on individuals, corrupting their own moral compasses to achieve their own goals.
