Elderly woman noticed blood in urine
Type 2 DM where the body either produces too much insulin or resists insulin.
Hypertension is when blood flows through the vessels with greater force, can strain your heart, damage blood vessels, cause kidney problems.
Osteoporosis is low bone mass & structural deterioration of bone tissue leading to fragility
when kidneys fail there is a short supply of active vit D, causing calcium and phosphorus to get out of balance. your body makes too much parathyroid hormone causing calcium to move from your bones to blood stream
high blood sugar can damage your kidneys, won't filter blood like it should, waste can build up in your body
uncontrolled high blood pressure can narrow/weaken the arteries around the kidneys, not being able to deliver enough blood to be filtered
dehydration
blood in the urine can be caused by the damaged kidneys that these have affected to not filter properly
If no changes are made, the patient could go into kidney failure, may need a kidney transplant, or death
The function of the urinary system is to eliminate waste from your body, regulate blood pressure/volume, control levels of elecrolytes, and regulate blooh pH
the urinary system consist of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra, penis/vagina
the structure of a nephron: bowman's capsule, glomerulus, proximal convoluted tubule, (loop of Henle) descending/ascending limb, distal convoluted tubule, collecting duct
the nephron helps get rid of waste from the body
Descending: (reabsorb) H2O
Ascending: (secrete) urea, (reabsorb) Na, K, Cl, urea
PCT: (reabsorb) glucose, amino acids, vits, small pro. urea, H2O, Na, K, Ca, HCO3 (secretion) urea, H, some drugs, uric acid
DCT: (reabsorb/secrete) Na, Cl, HCO3, H2O
filtration: glucose, vitamins, small proteins, amino acids, vitamins, urea, uric acid
Collecting duct: (reabsorb) H2O, urea (secrete) urea, H, HCO3, H2O
