treated with tinidiazole or metronidazole

oral rehydration may be needed

Cryptosporidiosis

severe watery diarrhea

caused by cryptospordium which is an intracellular parasite that is banana

infection results from drinking contaminated water

presence of oosysts in feces is dx

prevented with proper hygiene

Amebiasis

caused by Entamoeba histolytica all 3 forms

depend on the health of the host

transmitted by consumption

majority of indivduals develop luminal amebaisis

human carriers help maintain transmission

prevent with proper hygiene and safe sex practices

Tapeworm

taneia species live worldwide where beef and pork are food

treated with one dose of niclosamide or praziqauanted

rarely surgery is required unless the intestinal tract is blocked

Pinworm

hemotodes

inteste perianal itching

caused by enterobius vermicularisis

also on skin and fingernails so people re infest themselves

dx based on identification of eggs or adult pinworms

treated with pyranal pamoate or mebendazole followed by a second treatement 2 weeks later

Anisakiasis

result from infestation by several parasitic nematudes

most commonly known as anisakis simplex parasite of marine animal

20,000 cases occur worldwide
