INTERVENTION ANALYSIS
In both cases, students show disruptive behavior in the classroom. However, for Jason's case Tier 2 intervention with specific strategies is recommended to address his behavior due to his defiant and aggressive attitude towards his peers and teachers. In Cathy's case, I would recommend start with a Tier 1 intervention since her actions are not affecting as much the learning of others. In both scenarios, Tier 1 Strategies will benefit to promote an overall student behavior and create a positive classroom climate. However, Tier 2 intervention strategies are chosen to address a particular student or group of student's behavior. However, after searching for strategies, I found that some strategies like, Non-verbal cues, a daily positive behavior sheet, a reward system and regular meetings are very interesting strategies for both cases. No one of these students need yet a Tier 3 intervention and I realize by looking at strategies that will be a similar process for both students involving teachers, parents, counselor, Learning Support Team and administration in the intervention process, regular meetings and a behavior contract.
In both cases, a tracking system to record student's and collect data of behavior, intervention and consequences is recommended.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
At my school, teachers we have a behavior referral form for academic and behavior concern for teachers to fill in right after our classes. The learning support team has created a shared behavior tracking form spreadsheet to keep together all the data of students who need intervention. I find using a shared Google Drive and spread sheets very useful to collect and analyze data (no waste of paper and keep all together in one place). In addition, some students who are in a behavior contract, they carry a point sheet for teachers to sign and write feedback at the end of their classes. These systems have changed dramatically some students behavior and improve their relationship with their teachers due to their daily interaction and positive feedback.
