Unit 6 and 7
Solubility- the maximum amount of solute that can be dissolved in a given amount of solvent at a specific temperature... Usually expressed as the number of grams of solute per 100mL of solvent.

Solubility curves- As temperature increases, solubility increases.
Sedimentation- occurs naturally when solid substances that are heavier than their solvent deposit at the bottom of the mixture.
Decantation- a heterogeneous mixture that has distinct layers can be separated by slowly pouring one of the layers into another container.
-
-
-
-
-
A mixture that is uniform in composition and is the same throughout. Often referred to as "solutions".
-
Law of Conservation of mass- States that if a system is closed and the material changes state, the mass does not change.
-

3 states of matter... solid, liquid, and gas.
-
Liquid- a substance that flows freely but is of constant volume, having a consistency like that of water or oil.
Gas- a substance or matter in a state in which it will expand freely to fill the whole of a container, having no fixed shape (unlike a solid) and no fixed volume (unlike a liquid).
-
When the temperature of something goes up, its particles goes faster.
