Genetics
Chromosomes: everyone has 23 pairs, they are made of nucleic acid and proteins found in the nucleus cell. They carry genetic info in the form of genes.
Genes: The units of heredity, the traits you get from your parents, they come in pairs.
Recessive trait: the gene that is not visible, but is still there. It is shown by a lowercase letter
Dominant Trait: Characteristic that is seen or expressed, it is a gene- the recessive gene that is hidden, it is shown by a capital
Heterozygous: Recessive trait, meaning one of the same.
Homozygous: Dominant trait, meaning two of the same.
Alleles: Different forms of the same gene. For example, eye color, hair color and texture, etc.
-
Genome: The complete set of genes, made of the chemical DNA, each cell has the same set of instructions.
-
Phenotype: Physical appearance, what you see.
-
-
Mutation: A sudden permanent change in the DNA, can be caused by a gene or exposure, during or after birth.
-
-
Artifical Selection: The intentional breeding of plants and animals so humans can get desired traits.
