Language and Ethnicity
Different ethnic groups use language to show solidarity with each other and to reflect shared heritage. For many ethnic minority speakers SE is seen as 'correct' and 'white'

Creole Languages
Originated from when Britain enslaved labourers for Africa, in order for the slaves to communicate creoles were created. These had the original words from the workers language but with English grammar and pronunciation.
F.E: Patwa is now the first language of most people in Jamaica and has fully developed into a language.
Lexical Characteristics=
- Reduplication= due to them being limited phonologically, syllables were repeated to extend meanings (Sip=Ship, Sipsip = Sheep)
Grammar Characteristics= Pidginised English tend not to distinguish between genders they use the first person 'I' for all.
Patwa is undergoing 'Decreolisation' as it is becoming more like SE - may be because SE is used in the goverment, law and education.
Multicultural Urban English is a variety of English which combines elements of creole, SE and influences form other languages.
It is different from many other variety as there is no uniform characteristics, instead there is a pool of characteristics which speakers adiopt a number depending on factors such as age, ethnicity and region.
It is usually associated with the younger generations and despite developing in London it has now spread.
