Lizet experiences a common problem that many people face. She wants to belong, but other people shoot down her opinions and her actions. The people who she is surrounded by, make her question her heritage, personality, family, and herself. She changes herself to fit who she is around and in turn tries to find a place she belongs too. Many people face similar dilemmas. In Lizet’s culture, there is a certain path people are supposed to follow. She went against the grain in her personal life at home and with her life at college. She does not truly belong to either place, which goes hand in hand with the feeling of being lost between two cultures. Two cultures that mean just as much as each other.
