A 52-year-old female (a proud Gulf War veteran) came in complaining of recent challenges with completing normal tasks. She has experienced muscle weakness which affects her ability to simply go grocery shopping because her legs get too tired and she recently tripped and hurt her knee. She has also been an avid pool player until these symptoms occurred. She has found it difficult to play because the pool stick feels too heavy and she doesnt have the strength to to strike the balls as hard as she used to. We also found out that her brother and her father both had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Both family members died of the disease. Genetic testing confirms she also has ALS.
