NATURAL RIGHTS- The natural rights are Life,Liberty and Property. Among these basic natural rights, Locke said, are "life, liberty, and property." Locke believed that the most basic human law of nature is the preservation of mankind. To serve that purpose, he reasoned, individuals have both a right and a duty preserve their own lives. Human nature slefish, but people are rational. People can remove ruler if ruler abuse the power, second trreatise of government. Jefferson uses these to pursit to happiness. John Locke belived in this theory.
SOCIAL CONTRACT- The ruler has the power over the people and should be fair. Hobbes thought the total power should go to the ruler and people have no power to rebel. Locke thought that the government has limited power to chnage people's desires. ccording to other social contract theorists, when the government fails to secure their natural rights (Locke) or satisfy the best interests of society (called the "general will" by Rousseau), citizens can withdraw their obligation to obey, or change the leadership through elections.
