The Catholic Church
The Priests, nuns and missionary colonists helped build the colony in New France
The women had a role in the Catholic Church and they provided comfort for the sick, poor,and for the helpenss with problems. They contributed in every day life with familys in the parishes
The Jesuits Target/Goal was to covert First Nations to Jesus.
The First Nations
New France lived under the threat of attack of the British of the Haudenosaunee.
The Frist Nations were in "CANADA" and when the New France people come to "CANADA" and if the frist nations weren't there they could not live but the Frist Nations were there and they helped them live in "CANADA"
The Nuns goal was to convert the First Nations into there Catholicism.
Nuns helped build the colony.
Held religious services, taught schools, ran hospitals, and cared for the poor.
The Filles du Roi
The Filles Du Roi are the kings daughters
The king sent his daughters to marry men in new France and make family's in the community.
The king of France sent 900 women to become married in new France.
The seigneurs had to find the habitants to settle in there land.
Habitants rented land from the seigneurs
In 1663 King Louis XIV of New France, he took control of the colony from the merchants.
Louis XIV set up a Sovereign Council to govern the colony. Governor: The most powerful member of
the Sovereign Council was the governor. Intendant: The intentdant was in charge of the day to day affairs of the colony. Bishop: The head of the church in the colony was the bishop and as a member of the Sovereign Council he played a leading role in politics as well
Jean Talon was in charge of the economy after 1665.
He used the govenment's money to attract more colonists for the economy.
Jean Talon supported local industries and under Jean Talon the New France colonists doubled.
When the Jesuits were traveling the would write journals about ever thing they were doing.
