What is corrosion?
Corrosion is a type of deterioration of the material that is produced by an electrochemical attack by its surroundings.

For the steel to corrode (that is, for oxide to form) it must be exposed to oxygen or air. In addition, steel corrodes much more quickly in the presence of other atmospheric agents such as water (rain or wet air) and salt (salt water splashes).
