1. Religious and Political Freedom

Mrs. Smith attending a Baptist Church.

It gives people the Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Petition and Assembly.

2. Right to Bear Arms

Protects the citizen's right to own guns and ammunition.

My family can own a gun with certain certifications.

3. Quartering Troops

Prevents the government from placing troops in privately owned homes.

A soldier can't just live in my house without my consent.

4. Search and Seizure

Prevents the government from doing unreasonable and unnecessary searching and seizure of a citizen's home.

The Police will not search my house if there is no significant reason to do so.

5. Rights of Accused Persons

Gives the people the right to choose not to testify in court if it will harm their case.

If you get arrested, you have the right to remain silent because anything you say or do can and will be used against you.

6. Right to a Speedy, Public Trial

Guarantees a fast trial by one's peers and the accused party will be informed of their alleged crimes.

If you are being accused of steeling, you will be told the crimes you are being accused of.

7. Trial by Jury in Civil Cases

Provides that civil cases also be tried by jury.

If I go to court for a parking ticket, I would be amongst the judge and randomly selected jury members to settle my case in court.

Prevents unusual punishments, excessive fines and excessive bail.

I will not be given a life sentence for getting a speeding ticket.

9. Rights of People

States that the list of rights in the Constitution isn't exhaustive and will still have all of the rights that aren't listed.

Although not stated in the Constitution, I still have the right to go to a hair salon.

10. Powers of States and People

Defines the balance of power between the federal government and the states.

Different states charge different amounts of sales tax.
