Waste Management
Problems
Land Fills
Waste that isn't properly dealt with is dumped somewhere. It pollutes the local environment and is gross. They are a temporary solution as they can only hold so much before you have to start a new one. Ones on or near the water pollute the oceans or the body of water around it, which harms marine life.
Micro-plastics
No recycled plastics are broken down by water pressure and other forces into tiny plastic particles. These make their way up the food chain and eventually into our stomachs, which is not only bad for marine life and the ecosystems but is also a public health issue as well.
Not Recycled
Trash is not sorted by peoples or the government. People will not put the proper kind of trash in the right in, whether that be throwing recyclables into the trash or vis versa. The government doesn't always properly dispose or process recyclable materials, which just get sent to a landfill.
Single Use Plastics
Companies save money and make more by using single-use plastics. Not only can they not be recycled, but they can only be used once. This means a high volume of small plastic things entering landfills while companies make money.
Solutions
-
Mandatory Trash Sorting
Set up a system for sorting the trash that is easy to follow so that people will know how to sort their trash. If they don't do it they will get fined. If people won't listen to the rules, hit them in the wallet. The money taken from fines can be used to maintain recycling plants.
More Recycling Plants
We should build more waste processing plants. They will not only help sort and properly dispose of the trash produced in cities, but will also create jobs in both construction and working in the plant.
