3.2 Virtualisation
-
Client Virtualisation
It is a virtualisation technology used to separate a computer desktop environment from the physical computer.
-
Limitations:
There is no reduction in the number of end-user client machines (computers) that are needed in the network.
The licenses for Operating Systems, applications etc, still needs to be bought for each user.
-
-
Cloud Virtualisation
It is the "creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, such as a server, a desktop, a storage device, an operating system or network resources".
Benefits:
-
Protection from System Failures. Technology is always at the risk of crashing down at the wrong time.
Less costs, 24/7, flexibility in capacity, automate updates.
Limitations:
No longer in control. When moving services to the cloud, you are handing over your data and information.
-
Hybrid Cloud Storage
It separates resources and services from the underlying physical delivery environment in the hybrid cloud.
Benefits:
-
-
-
Control, speed and scalability
Limitations:
-
-
Complexity, compliance, dependency.
