Climate

Japan is located is an island country in East Asia "in the Pacific Ocean, it lies off the eastern coast of the Asian continent and stretches from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and the Philippine Sea in the south."- Wikipedia

Japan has a temperate climate, varying slightly between areas.

Japan is split into 4 areas- Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu.

Japan has 6 different climate areas. These include Hokkaido, Sea of Japan, Central Highland, Seto Inland Sea, Pacific Ocean, and the Ryukyu Islands.

Medieval, or feudal, Japan's religions were very similar to Ancient Japan's, but reversed. Shinto declined as emperors had, since Shoguns has risen to power.

After a while, Japan was ruled by emperors, who often hired nobles from high families to serve alongside.

Shinto was partly based on the emperor's power and lineage, but they were less common as shoguns arrived, rendering Shinto as less common.

Buddhism was already trying to gain power and become more commonplace than Shinto when it declined, and as Japan communicated to other regions more.

At this point in time, Japan had became more communicated towards other close countries, trading with them better.

Japan also had better irrigation methods, boosting, if not maximizing, crop potential.

There were also artisans who could create armor, tools, or weapons, and merchants could sell different items, at different areas, which allowed regions that had specific items give and receive new items.

Japan was separated into clans, and were ruled by the Yamato, in general. JImmu, a Yamato leader, was said to be the great-grandson of the sun goddess, and became the first emperor.

Ancient Japan's main religion was Shinto, or the belief that humans, animals, plants, and even inanimate objects such as rivers, have their own spirits.

They believed they could call on the kami, nature spirits, for help, and worshipped for them at holy places.

Japan's rulers took part in Shinto rituals to keep the status and well-being of Japan.

Nobles were given large areas of land, and made more money off of the crops grown.

Buddhism was also in Ancient Japan, as it was encouraged by the emperor Shotoku's love for the Chinese lifestyle and civilization.

When the Yayoi, some of Japan's first settlers, came to Japan, they brought over their skills of pottery, metalworking, and grew rice as a main crop.

Medieval Japan was full of classes-such as...

The emperor was the highest being- he was an all-powerful ruler.

Nobles were given land by the emperor to work, and were well-respected among others.

Many Japanese were below the emperor and nobles in these regards, and were not as well-respected as them.

Samurai were well-respected warriors bound by the Bushido code and their need for honor. They were often protecting nobles and other higher-ups.

Shoguns- They had power rivaling the emperors and created governments known as shogunates.

Nobles, once again, continued to be very powerful, and well-respected, owning large plots of land. Other higher-ups with similar status were regents, and daimyo.

Politics

Medieval Japan has had many differences in politics. These include the shoguns and the shogunates, hired nobles, and regents. Nobles were given land for their service, who could give even MORE land to samurai to protect them. Regents could work in politics for emperors to weak or ill to serve, but shoguns then became the main form of government, owning large masses of land and riches. Daimyos were powerful military lords that all ruled separate areas that were independant to each other.

Mercenaries had less respect, as they required payment for their services, and had little honor to give.

If you were none of these, you were probably a farmer or artisan that even though they had respect, skill, and money, were nowhere close to those of higher-ups.
